A Healthy Team Is a Happy Team. Simple Ways to Boost Wellbeing in the Workplace

We all know that a healthy team is a happy team. If you’re an employer, it pays to invest in your employees and to take steps to get the best out of them. One way to do this is focusing on boosting wellbeing by prioritizing health and safety. If you’re keen to create a healthier, more productive environment, here are some simple steps you can take today.

Improving Posture

Back pain is officially the most common form of work-related illness. In many cases, aches and pains are caused or exacerbated by poor posture. With the majority of employees spending long periods of time sitting at desks, improving posture is key. To lower the risk of sick days and keep your team free from pain, provide adjustable desks, chairs that offer lumbar support and flexible workstations. It’s also a great idea to encourage taking regular breaks and to provide information about good posture. If you’re keen to go a step further, you could even look into offering discounts on exercise classes, for example, lunchtime yoga sessions. This could also help to reduce stress.

Hygiene

Hygiene should be an important consideration for every employer. Your employees should be able to work in an environment that is clean and risk-free. Invest in professional cleaning services and take steps like placing non-slip mats under the urinals and pinning up posters encouraging frequent hand-washing. If your office is fresh and sparkling clean, this will enhance employee morale, lower the risk of illness and ensure you create a positive impression if you have clients or colleagues visiting.

Boosting Mental Health

Stress is one of the most common ailments faced by modern workforces. Some people thrive under pressure, but there can come a time when even the most resilient employees can’t handle stress. As an employer, there are many things you can do to try and tackle stress and keep spirits high. Practically speaking, it’s advisable to consider workloads carefully and to take time to meet with your employees or organize sessions between individuals and their line managers on a regular basis. If somebody is struggling, you want to ensure that they feel able to approach you or a senior member of staff. In addition, you can think about measures that enhance wellbeing and promote happiness, for example, encouraging exercise, enabling staff to take breaks in the fresh air and giving employees something to look forward to. Some businesses organize a team lunch on a Friday or let people finish an hour early, for example. It’s also important to make sure that employees are able to talk to somebody about mental health concerns and to ensure appropriate support is in place.

If you enjoy your job, you feel comfortable at work, and there’s a positive, friendly vibe, it stands to reason that you’ll probably give more. Healthy, happy teams are productive and efficient and it pays for employers to consider morale, health, safety, hygiene, and wellbeing, as well as performance. If you’re eager to improve results and ensure your staff is happy and healthy, take these tips on board.
