Most people tend to ignore experience pain various pains they experience, and finally, it goes away. However, if the pain lasts for more than 24 hours, it could be a sign of a severe illness. Some conditions, such as foot pain, are due to old age, and others can occur due to your daily activities.

Here are some other pains that you shouldn’t ignore.

Extreme Headache

You should seek medical attention as soon as possible if you experience a headache like never before. Though it might be just a migraine, it could also be an aneurysm, which is a ruptured blood vessel and leads to bleeding in your brain. A ruptured aneurysm occurs mostly in adults and can cause death quickly. Smoking, drugs, and alcohol abuse increase the risks of an aneurysm.

Sudden Sharp Pains in the Stomach

The stomach is very sensitive, and any sharp pain may be a sign of an illness that has been eating you up silently. Most of the time, the pain starts around the middle part, close to the belly button, and may move to the lower part. It can be painful to touch accompanied by vomiting, a little fever, nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, fullness, and swelling of the stomach. As the pain increases, you might feel like your guts are being sliced. These may be signs of appendicitis. This is an emergency situation that cannot pass for a normal stomach ache. You should never ignore such pain because the appendix can burst.

Another cause of sudden pain in the abdomen is an inflamed pancreas or gallbladder. A gallbladder can also rupture if not treated immediately. If your pancreas is inflamed, seek medical attention right away.

In women, stomach pain can be inflammation due to pelvic infection or an ovarian cyst. Any sexually active woman and of childbearing age may also have an ectopic pregnancy.

Chest Pains

Chest pain that starts in the middle of your chest and lingers on for a few minutes is a bad sign. Sometimes, it comes and goes and may spread to the arms, jaw, stomach, neck, and back. It could also be accompanied by dizziness, cold sweat, breath shortness, and nausea.

This kind of pain should not be ignored as it may be a sign of pulmonary embolism, angina, or pneumothorax. What’s more, these are common signs of a heart attack. If you have such signs and symptoms, call 911 immediately.

Swollen Painful Legs

This pain develops suddenly, and the area affected turns red and swells. Walking or standing up becomes a challenge. The pain and swelling often occur on the thigh or calf. This may be a sign of deep vein thrombosis, which is a clot that forms deep in the vein within your leg. It occurs mainly in people who do not move around, and therefore, blood circulation is not efficient. They are common in people who are over 60, anyone who is obese, new mothers, and women under birth control pills.

Bottom Line

Sudden acute pain doesn’t always mean dangerous diseases. Some are just exaggerated but not severe, while some fatal conditions can occur without any pain. If you’re suffering from chronic pain, ensure you know how to manage it.
