Signs That Your Oral Health Is Worse Than You Think

Everyone wants to have that perfect smile that they’re happy to show off everywhere they go, but whiteness isn’t everything when it comes to healthy teeth. There are actually a couple of signs that will tell you that you should really consider taking better care of your teeth or even to change up your health-related habits so that your teeth aren’t negatively affected.

In this article, we’re going to go through a couple of signs of poor oral health that you should look out for and deal with immediately.

Sensitive Teeth Should Be a Cause for Concern

If you find that hot or cold food usually triggers an ache or pain in your teeth, then it could be caused by a cavity in your teeth. While it’s usually normal to feel a brief ache or jolt of pain when you sip on a really cold drink, it shouldn’t last longer than a second or two. If it starts to last a very long time, then you should be concerned about your oral health and it’s best to visit a dentist for a proper examination.

Bleeding Gums Usually Isn’t a Good Sign

If you’ve noticed that your gums are bleeding a lot when you brush them, then it could be a sign that your gums aren’t healthy at all. Your dentist will be able to tell you if your gums are inflamed or if you’re actually brushing or flossing too hard. Redness and swelling can also be indicators of gum disease, and it’s not easy to visually inspect this on your own so make sure you visit a dentist when possible.

Does Your Breath Usually Smell Bad?

Whether it’s comments from friends and family members about your breath or just a realization that your breath smells bad at times, then you could be suffering from gum disease or a buildup of plaque and bacteria on your teeth and gums. This can cause bleeding, inflammation and ultimately bad breath. However, bad breath can also be caused by stomach problems or even sinus issues, so it’s worth taking a trip to visit your dentist to see what the cause of your bad breath is.

Food Getting Stuck in Your Teeth

If you’re always first to reach for the toothpicks after a meal, then you could be in danger of a hidden cavity. If you floss and brush as usual then you usually won’t notice any bits of food leftover in your teeth, but if you find yourself constantly having to pick out bits of food from between your teeth after a meal, then it could be a sign that those bits of food are catching on hidden cavities in your teeth.

If you simply haven’t been to a dentist in a long time then it’s usually worth booking an appointment even if you think that your teeth are perfectly fine. Many oral health issues can’t be seen on the surface, so it’s best to seek professional help to check your teeth every few months.
