Staying Upbeat and Productive When Sick or Injured

For business Moms; be they entrepreneurs who have created their own opportunities and started their own enterprises or women who have climbed to the upper tiers of the corporate ladder, inertia does not sit well. These are women who are tired of being told they can’t have it all and poured their hearts and souls into proving the naysayers wrong. They are among the world’s finest multitaskers and have dynamism in their DNA.

Thus, when they fall sick or injured it can take even more of a toll on them. The change of pace, even more than the reduced income and the symptoms of the illness or injury itself, can be especially jarring to Moms accustomed to the fast lane. In many cases this can lead to depression, stress and lethargy which are far from conducive to healing.

Here are some tips for staying upbeat, positive and productive when you’re sick or injured…

Get Creative

Inveterate career women can find themselves at a loose end when they have to take extended periods away from work. This can leave them feeling lacking in purpose, especially when the kids have gone to school. Perhaps a creative endeavor like writing, drawing, painting, playing music or singing can get the positivity flowing again.

Pursue Justice

If you’ve been injured as a result of something that wasn’t your fault, you may be incensed by the injustice of it all, especially if your injury was a result of someone else’s carelessness and negligence. If this is the case for you, one of the most productive things you can do is talk to a personal injury lawyer. Not only could you receive compensation that could ameliorate your financial losses, you’ll also have the satisfaction of knowing that justice has been served.

Stay as Active as You Can

The nature of your illness or disability may prohibit many forms of physical exercise, but it’s still in your best interest to remain as active as you can. Spend as much time as possible outdoors and try to spend a little time every day in a park or nature reserve. Proximity to nature is a proven mood booster which could even help you heal faster.

Eat Right

As tempting as it is to immerse ourselves in a vat of cookie dough ice cream when we feel down, it’s more important than ever to eat well when we are sick or injured. Only by getting enough vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber can our bodies marshall their defences to combat illness and infection or knit damaged tissues back together again.

On the other hand, over indulging in junk foods can actually impair your healing and make you feel more down, depressed and lethargic.

Spend as Much Time as You Can with Your Kids

Finally, if you feel that you need some perspective to give yourself a positivity boost, spend as much time as you can with your kids. Not only do you feel a surge of love every time you look at them, their very presence reminds you why you do all this, and what a formidable human being you are to have raised your kids so well.
