For a long time, working from home has been a dream for many people – and since at least the early 2000’s, high-profile entrepreneurs such as Tim Ferriss have made names for themselves in large part by giving advice on how people can end up living the “location independent” dream.

In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, however, with many more people obliged to work from home, some of the challenges of the work from home lifestyle have been quite heavily brought to the forefront of public awareness.

In order to be productive and happy when working from home, it is certainly necessary to promote the most harmonious “work from home environment” possible.

Here are a few tips for achieving this.

Organise and Structure Your Home

In order to create a positive and harmonious environment in your home that can fast track you into productivity and “flow states” reliably, it’s important to organise and structure your home so that it embodies an “energy” that you find personally uplifting.

You don’t have to get out crystals and invite a master Reiki practitioner over in order to achieve this. You just need to ensure that the ambience in your home has the effect of moving you into a “feelgood” state in general.

Tidying up and decluttering the space is sure to help, as is ensuring adequate lighting, making sure that there are pleasant aromas in the air, and maybe also hanging up powerful paintings or art prints, motivational posters, and so on.

If your home causes you to feel gloomy and frustrated, it will be very difficult for you to be productive.

Maintain Helpful Routines and Emphasise Good Nutrition

Sticking with certain routines that keep you anchored and grounded – such as going to bed by a certain hour, and having regular meal times – can work wonders in terms of helping you to create a home environment that fosters productivity and “flow.”

Among the various routines that you pay special attention to, emphasising good nutrition can make a world of difference – not only by helping you to feel satiated, but also by boosting your energy levels, and enhancing your health over time.

Of course, if you’re tidying up your own nutrition it might also be a good idea to bring other members of the family on board, including your animal companions. Getting the best healthy dog food, as well as preparing well-balanced meals for yourself and your family, can mean that the baseline level of wellbeing within the entire home improves substantially.

Reduce Distractions and Ground Yourself in the Present Moment

If your home environment is full of distractions and clutter, there’s a good chance that you will find your attention jumping around haphazardly, to the extent that it makes it difficult for you to actually get your work done.

Reducing distractions, and having techniques to ground yourself in the present moment, can make a world of difference in your ability to work effectively from home.

Ideally, your desk should be neat and tidy, and you should have ways of getting yourself out of your head and into the moment when it’s time to work.
