Alternative Depression Treatments (For Those That Don’t Want to Take Antidepressants)

Depression, whether people admit it or not seems to be commonplace now. Whether it’s due to a lack of Vitamin D or stresses in an individual’s life, it seems that people go to the doctors for depressive symptoms, they are automatically offered antidepressants. And while all this can work wonders for some, for others it might not be necessary.

If you are considering antidepressants, you might want to go for some alternative approaches first. And while they’re not necessarily alternative in the most literal of senses, if you don’t want to rattle due to the number of prescription tablets, it’s worth trying these.

CBD Oil

Not just “something derived from cannabis” anymore, you can purchase CBD oil in almost any shop. There are plenty of brands that you can choose from, Prime My Body is one of many out there. But when you look at the benefits of CBD oil, it seems that it can help people across the board, not just in terms of physical ailments, but combating depression as well. Many people are using it as a tool for a healthier life all around, and it’s worth going in this direction first, especially when antidepressants can tend to numb the senses.

The Right Supplements

While the right diet is crucial, if you are someone that has a deficiency in something, this might very well help take the edge off. There are studies that show how fish oil has been used to treat mood disorders. And any omega-3 containing food or supplement can be one of the essential tools in fighting mental health problems. As well as this, it’s worth considering if you are deficient in something like magnesium, where a simple tablet can easily provide a pick-me-up, especially if you feel miserable, or you tend to get unwell at the drop of a hat. Taking a vitamin D gummy is a great way to help maintain a healthy level of it.

The Cold

It seems that many people are increasing their exposure to the cold for, not just all-around health, but the positive effects on depression and anxiety. If you’ve ever stepped into a cold shower you know that you can’t focus on anything else. As well as this, stepping into a cold shower and braving the icy temperatures can give you a sense of accomplishment. In addition, the cold can help push your blood around your body, providing warmth to the extremities.

Exercise

As exercise helps to get the blood flowing, exercise and the natural endorphins released can provide a counterpoint to mild depression. If you’ve never got into exercise, it’s a perfect way to feel a sense of accomplishment, but for those that have mild depression, it can help make you feel a bit more tired so you can have a restful sleep. The trick with exercise is shocking your body so you cannot focus on anything else.

Understandably, people don’t want to take antidepressants, and as well people are going for natural approaches to health these days, people that function with depression, health is one fundamental pillar, but it’s also about mindset as well.
