How to Make Sure You Look After Your Car

The average car would last about 100,000 miles if it was lucky. The current state of affairs is quite different, however. More advanced manufacturing, fluoropolymer coatings, fluids, and parts make cars last longer. On the other hand, if you fail to pay attention and maintain your car, it will not last as long as it should.

Here are some tips that you can use to keep your car on the road for longer:

Maintenance Schedule

By far, the best thing you can do for your car is to simply take better care of it. Maintaining your vehicle regularly can make it last longer. Problem areas can often be identified and the signs of a larger issue spotted before it becomes a problem.

Part of your maintenance should include cleaning your vehicle. From choosing the right car shampoo and using a ShamWow Guy to deep cleaning your interior, your car will stand the test of time if you keep it clean and looked after.

Battery Replacement

Most people ignore these maintenance tasks or don’t think they need to be done in the first place. Take a look at your owner’s manual and try to follow the recommended service schedule as closely as possible. This will improve your car’s performance and prolong its life.

Do Not Disregard Light Alerts, Gauges, or Warnings

Most car owners have experienced driving with an odd light on their dashboard, as soon as you start the engine. Usually, drivers ignore it, hoping it will go away, but if you do this, it can shorten the lifespan of your car by years.

It is important to understand that every alert or warning light has a purpose. It may remind you of your belt buckle or of low fuel. However, there are other signals that could indicate serious problems. If you’d like to know what the meaning of this problem is, you can find a lot of resources online. You’re best off taking it to a reputable mechanic.

Fluids & Filters Need to Be Watched

Engines are more than just metal pieces. These pieces of equipment contain sensitive and delicate components. During the transmission and engine phases, fluids such as oil, transmission fluid, and coolant play a vital role. These parts may be permanently damaged if you don’t periodically replace the filters or monitor these levels.

Whenever you go on a long journey, you need to make sure you check the oil and other fuel levels in your car, even if you follow a regular maintenance routine. It’s also a good idea to check and change your filters while you are doing it, particularly your in-cabin and engine air filters. Checking your fluids and changing your filters are simple tasks that do not require much knowledge. However, if you are unsure always make sure you take your car to see a mechanic.

Making sure your car stands the test of time is as easy as following these four tips. Can you suggest any other tips that might be helpful? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
