Many of us get a little nervous whenever the subject of the ‘big M’ comes up. After all, there are many symptoms of menopause that aren’t too pleasant! Hot flashes, we’re looking at you! However, rather than ignoring menopause, educating ourselves on the best way to make it through is a much better approach. Fortunately, you can find plenty of advice on this very topic in the post below.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

One of the most significant developments in menopause care is HRT or hormone replacement therapy. The idea being that putting back in the hormones that the body is no longer producing on its own can significantly help alleviate many of the symptoms, including vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and mood swings.

HRT is particularly useful for women that are struggling acutely in menopause. However, many women do worry about the effect that adding hormones into their system can have.

Fortunately, it is now possible to get hormone replacement for women that is bioidentical (BHRT). Bioidentical means the hormones used are the same as the ones naturally made in the body- something that means they are more effective and have a better uptake, which ensures the best results.

Minimize Health Risks

There are also some health risks of which every woman needs to be aware. In particular, these include an increased risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. The latter is where the bones in the body lose density and are at more risk of breaking or cracking.

The good news is that by being aware of the health risks associated with menopause, women can make sure they speak to their medical team about the best ways to reduce them. After all, prevention is always better than cure when it comes to our health at any age.

Change up Your Wardrobe

Another important menopausal survival technique has to do with changing up your wardrobe and what you wear on a day to day basis. However, this isn’t connected to dressing suitability for your age at all. Women must be free to choose whatever style and colors they wish at any life stage.

Instead, changing up your wardrobe around the time of menopause can be of great help practically. The idea being that lighter weight and natural fabrics such as cotton and linen can help you stay cool and comfortable, even if a hot flush does occur. Merino wool is also excellent for colder days as it provides warmth when needed and lets the body breathe.

The same logic applies to bedding for women entering the menopause as well. Especially as many people report hot flashes during the night that weigh wake them or prevent them from getting to sleep. Therefore, if you have cotton or linen sheets, you are much more likely to stay cool and comfortable and better rest.

You may even wish to invest in things like the cool pillow. A headrest that stays cool, no matter your body temp or the temperature outside. Something else that can make sure you get maximum quality rest and make a big difference to your life quality.

Lubrication Is Essential

Our generation is getting much better at talking about things like the need for lubrication during sex in menopause. Yes, it may be a little embarrassing still for some of us, but sex is an integral part of life and needs to be addressed.

Of course, additional lubrication in the form of gels explicitly designed for this use can be hugely beneficial for menopausal women. The reason being that the hormonal changes they go through can mean natural lubrication ‘down there’ isn’t as ample as they’d like.

Lifestyle – Food & Drink

Finally, one of the best things that a woman going through menopause can do for their health is to take a long, hard look at their lifestyle. Yes, this means what you eat, drink regularly.

In particular, drinking plenty of cold water can regulate your body temperature and prevent more serious hot flashes. To that end, be sure to invest in an excellent quality portable drinking bottle. Preferably one with a space for some ice.

Diet during menopause is all about balance. That means avoiding extreme eating plans that exclude whole food groups and aren’t easy to stick to. While also making sure that your daily calories don’t come only from carb-heavy snacks.

Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables are always a good idea. The same can be said for nutritional supplements such as black cohosh, which are known to have beneficial effects for those going through menopause.
