Why It Always Seems to Take You So Long to Get Things Done

If you run a business, you know that time is money. But often you can find yourself scratching your head in the middle of the afternoon, wondering where all your time went. Somehow, you just burned through six hours, and have very little to show for it.

Often, you’re incredibly busy, but not actually all that productive. You’re putting out fires which makes you feel like you’re doing something. But your processes and systems are continually undermining your effort, so you’re always behind.

Have you ever wondered why it takes you so long to get stuff done? Check out the following.

You’re Constantly Being Interrupted

The odd interruption here and there is okay if it is something important. But having people tap on the door every ten minutes or so makes it impossible to do any deep work. You continuously have to abandon your train of thought to deal with a problem. And that seriously harms your overall productivity levels throughout the day.

Usually, issues like this stem from a lack of competent management in your organization. Senior colleagues should be able to straighten the ship without constant hand-holding from you. If they’re unable to make responsible decisions independently, then they’re not doing their jobs.

Your Computers Are a Nightmare

It’s 2020. There is, therefore, no excuse for slow-running computers. Modern hardware is more than capable of dealing with even the heaviest of workloads.

If you have an issue, Micro Doctor suggests you seek out professional help. Often, the problem isn’t your physical PCs, tablets and smartphones – it’s the network that connects them. Lack of bandwidth can make computers behave more sluggishly than necessarily, holding your entire organization back. Simple solutions can frequently remedy the problem in a matter of hours, helping everyone in your firm thrive, including you.

You Don’t Have a Workflow in Place

In most companies, it makes sense to do work in a specific order. You start with the basics, and then you build new systems on top of that. Surprisingly, though, many small and medium-sized businesses don’t create robust workflows in advance of getting on with the job. This automatically puts them at a disadvantage and means that people do stuff in the wrong order, creating problems later on.

Workflows should be simple and synchronized. Thanks to the cloud, doing this is much easier than it ever was in the past. You just use an app that takes care of the entire process for you.

You Aren’t Outsourcing Tasks

Doing everything in-house is a massive drag on your time. You wind up spending precious resources on things that are much cheaper to export to specialists.

Digital marketing, advertising, writing, research and accounting are all obvious things you might want to outsource. Other tasks include secretarial work, hiring new employees, and even things like maintaining and servicing your computers.

A lot of entrepreneurs don’t fully appreciate the opportunities open to them. Once they do, they invariably make the switch so that they can focus on their core operations.
