Diamonds have always been rather popular. And not just because Rihanna sings about them. Their history is far, far more comprehensive and amazing. They have always been revered, cherished, and gifted as a symbol of pure affection and love. This made them turn into a classic – a sign of elegance and sophistication.

If you are thinking of surprising someone you love with this precious gem, or getting one for yourself, then you definitely need to do some research before grabbing your wallet. For starters, you need to find all the cuts explained, learn the importance and the signs of quality, and then choose the one that goes perfectly with the person that is going to wear it. This might seem like a lot of work, but, trust me – it’s rather fun.

Let’s Spread Some Fun

Speaking of fun, I bet there are a lot of things that you don’t know about these jewels and some of those things might definitely amuse you. Let’s face it; what does the average consumer know about this product? If you are not an expert on the topic, then I am guessing you fall under the “average consumer” category.

We know that it’s valuable, that it has a beautiful, irreplaceable shine and that it makes for a great present. Some more experienced shoppers might also know that the cut and the carat weight are very important – and that’s about it. We are usually more inclined towards buying them than learning about them.

Well, I am here to change that. The facts I will provide you here might come in handy when you decide to shop for this radiant gem. But, most importantly, they will be rather fun and interesting. Hey, who doesn’t like to learn a few fun facts every now and then? And when those facts revolve around your favorite jewel, well… that’s a big plus. More info.

They Are Found in Candle Flames

The next time you light a candle, thing about the contents of its flame. There are diamonds in there! Yes, you have heard that right. A chemistry professor, Wuzong Zhou, has proved that more than a million of diamond nanoparticles can be found in the flame of a candle. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you could light thousands of candles, collect the nanoparticles and become rich overnight. Or, could you?

People’s Remains Can Be Turned Into a Diamond

We all know how difficult and heartbreaking it is to lose someone you love. You want to keep their memory alive as long as possible. Some people cherish some of the items they left behind. Nowadays, scientist can turn people’s ashes into diamonds. This might seem be a bit weird for some individuals, but others might like it. Hey, to each their own…

There Is One in the Sky

If you thought that these gems could only be found on Earth, or better yet, under the ground, then you need to think again. Fifty light years away from our planet, there is a diamond named Lucy. Scientists have announced this discovery in the sky in 2007 and it got the name thanks to the Beatle’s song “Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds”. In addition to that, it has been proved that some white dwarf stars in space contain a diamond core.

They Are Not All Colorless

When you search for that perfect gift, you always end up finding those colorless, flickering germs. However, you can find a lot of different colors in the nature. Of course, colored diamonds are significantly rarer than the “normal” ones, but that doesn’t mean that they are non-existent. Maybe you should organize a quest, or something…

They Lose Weight

No, I am not saying that these jewels have a gym subscription, so they exercise in order to get in shape. I am saying that they lose around 50% of their overall weight in the process of being turned from rough to loose diamonds. The cutter is responsible for this. But, don’t attack them. Because – it just so happens that diamonds become more beautiful when they lose weight. So, in fact, you should thank the cutters for their amazing work.
