There is absolutely nothing worse than when your internet or devices stop working. Devices have evolved into our lifelines. We use devices for communication, for work and pleasure, so when they are suddenly taken away or broken we have no idea what to do with ourselves!
Despite this, we take very little care of our devices generally, and when they don’t work the first thing we try is to turn it off and on again. However, there are ways we can better look after our technology devices…
Learn How to Clean Them!
Depending on the type of device you own, depends on how you should best clean them. Do you remember the last time you cleaned your phone or your laptop? Unless you are a clean freak, it’s probably going to be the last time you remembered! Different devices require different equipment to clean them.
Cleaning your laptop keyboard can be done in different ways. Some people suggest using an air compressor to gently blow away any dust and debris, however, some suggest malleable cleaning putty to pick those bits of dust and debris out from your keyboard. Both work well and choosing the right one is dependent on how you feel about using them. By the way, it’s important to turn your devices off before you start cleaning them and sanitize them after using either an air compressor or cleaning putty.
Another simple way to avoid having to clean your device is to keep it away from food and drink. the most common reason for devices breaking is having liquid spilt on them or food getting into the speakers. Make sure when you are eating or drinking it’s away from your devices and if they do get food or drink on them that they are cleaned immediately to reduce the risk of any damage.
Storage
The best way to look after your devices is to store them correctly. This can be as simple as choosing the correct phone or laptop case, so if it is dropped the screen won’t smash. Another simple way is when using a laptop, store it in the right position and keeping the leads safe from damage. The best way to look after your device is to not expose it to extremely hot weather or extremely cold temperatures, the extreme heat and cold affect the elements inside your devices which may mean that they stop working. If you own a smartphone and you leave it in the sun for too long, you may get a message saying you need to cool the phone down before it will work again. Unfortunately, laptops, don’t always have this function to remind you of the damage you can cause by overheating.
Protect Your Device
Protecting your device can be done in a multitude of ways. Choosing the correct case for your device should stop the damage from any accidents where it may be dropped. The most common issue surrounding the dropping of devices is the smashing of the screens. This is most common when using your phone as this is the most difficult to avoid. However, there are products out there to help you reduce the risk of this happening. Products such as screen protectors which stick to the face of your phone reinforce the glass screens. These are very popular because they do the job well. If you are using a screen protector and you see a crack, the screen protector is probably cracked not your actual phone screen. However, if the screen protector is cracked, you do need to replace it because it would not be of the same use to the screen underneath. They are very cheap and easy to install yourself to there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have one. The same can be said for laptop screens and TV screens.
Another way to protect your device is by using insurance. This can be funded through your bank or independent companies. This is so important because if you do have an issue with your device most companies provide you with a courtesy device until your device is fixed. This means you’re not going without a device and your life can continue as normal! Insurance is one of those things that you can gloss over to start with, but until you need it you don’t know how valuable it is. There have been many cases where brand new phones have broken and the owners have received a brand new phone returned to them instead of the one they had broken due to the device not being able to be fixed. This usually saves you an extreme amount of money by having you not replace the device you already own.
In addition, you can also protect your device by using security screens. If you work anywhere you need to protect your identity or protect the work you’re doing security screens are excellent for this type of work. Security screens are a bit like protective phone screens, except they have ridges across the screen that don’t allow individuals that either side of you to see what you’re seeing. This means you can follow data protection and privacy guidance without having to specifically only work at work. These can be picked up very cheaply in the same place as a normal phone screen and again can be implemented fairly easily or using tutorial videos online.
Company Protection
If you own a company that provides its employees with their own devices it can be hard especially if they are working from home to keep up with IT support. This is why many companies are now investing in IT Managed Services, which involves an external company to manage all of your IT queries. This saves the business a lot of money by not having to house an IT Department within your premises and also means that qualified IT technicians are sometimes able to fix problems remotely or over the phone. These types of services can detect any cybersecurity issues, they can also provide the best advice in regards to keeping devices safe and secure and can also provide customised cloud storage for your business.
