The way people look at themselves and their bodies has changed massively over recent years, with social media and the internet taking over teenagers and young people are seeing what they think is classed as the perfect body and this is leading to low body confidence and them having mental health issues, this shouldn’t be the case and things are being done throughout the world to try and combat the issue but for those already affected there are things you can do to help change the perception you have of yourself.

Try to Tailor Your Social Media Feeds
With there being so many social media platforms to browse and look at everyday it is no surprise that social media is having such an impact on mental health and how people look at themselves. A great way to help reduce the impact that social media is having on your body confidence is to tailor what you are going to see. You need to start unfollowing and hiding anything that makes you feel bad about yourself and your body, whether it is someone you know or not. You need to take steps to block them from your social media, because if you do not see them then they are not going to have that impact on you.
What you then need to do is start following and looking for people that encourage body positivity and are advocates for it, follow anyone that makes you feel good about yourself and how you look, this will help to give you a more positive mindset and stop you looking at things that are going to have a negative impact on you.
Look Into What Your Body Does Not How It Looks
It can be easy to just focus on how you and your body looks but your body is more than that, you need to think about and look into what it does. By understanding what it does you can appreciate your body for more than just how it looks but how incredible it is, it is powerful, it is fast, and it is smart. It is what gives you life and keeps you living everyday, it protects you and helps you do what you want to do throughout your life, if you start thinking positively about what your body does for you, rather than what it does not have or do then you can get a new found appreciation for your body that is more than how it looks.
Look After Your Body
A great way to help how you feel about your body is to look after it and stop any mistreating of it. Treat your body as if it was another person, say positive things about it, eat well, exercise if you need to and help to have a happy and healthy body that you are happy with. Being kind to your body, which is you, is a great way to breathe positivity into yourself about your body, just by respecting it and giving it what it wants, not what you think it needs. Take it for a massage, relax in a bubble after a long day there are numerous things you can do to treat your body.
Do Something Positive to Change Your Mindset
Doing something positive to your body can help you change your mind on how you look quite quickly go for a haircut or a treatment and treat yourself to something you have wanted to do to help you feel more positive, maybe you do not like your hair then treat it right, look up what you need to treat it better like shampoos and conditioners for balayages, or get a new hair color. Anything that will help you feel a bit more positive about yourself.
Dress Up Whenever You Want
It may be easier for you to wear baggy clothes and try to hide yourself everyday but your body is not something that has to be hidden. Pick out some outfits that are colorful and fun and embrace yourself. You can do this whenever you want as well, don’t just wait for special occasions to break out the sparkles, try and dress to impress whenever you want to. The way that you dress will be impacting your mood, if you are a confident dresser then you tend to carry confidence but if you hide behind baggy clothes with no confidence in how you look it will show through. You do not have to worry about looking sexy or dressing a certain way, just wear what makes you happy and show off your amazing body in a way that you are happy with no one else.
Do Not Shy From Photos
Too many people will shy away from being in photos because of how they think they look, but photos are memories that you can carry with you for life. A lot of people look back over times with friends and families years down the road and wonder why they are not in the photos. This can be sad for your future self, so get in the photos and make those memories you can look back on no matter what you think you look like. You do not have to look at the photos straight away but if you keep them for later in life you will have more appreciation for them and be glad you did it, take the photos for later not for the now.
