Do customers regularly visit your premises? If so, do you receive a lot of parents with kids? If the answer is yes, it could be important to start catering to these customers. By taking certain measures, you can make life easier for parents and their kids so that they have a better customer experience. You may even encourage more customers with kids to use your premises, happy in the knowledge that they will be catered for.
Types of business premises that could benefit from catering to customers with kids include restaurants, hotels, retail stores and doctor/dental surgeries. Below are just a few ways in which you can start catering to kids.
Explore Ways to Entertain Kids
There may be ways of keeping kids entertained so that parents can have some space. For example, if you run a campsite or hotel, you could consider adding a playground. Even a small outdoor area can be transformed with some poured-in-place rubber playground surfacing, a climbing frame and a slide. You don’t even have to go to these lengths to entertain children. Many waiting rooms provide things like TVs, children’s books and bead mazes. Restaurants meanwhile sometimes supply children’s menus that can be colored in with crayons or menus with puzzles on.
Add Baby Changing Facilities to Bathrooms
If you have customer bathrooms on your premises, consider whether you should provide baby changing facilities. This could include a baby changing table and waste-bins for diapers. Such facilities will make diaper changes a lot easier. A lot of company premises are now moving towards gender neutral baby changing facilities – this allows mothers and fathers to use them.
Allow Easy Access for Prams
Are customers with prams able to easily access your premises? Tight doorways and stairs could make it hard for such customers to get in. It could be worth taking measures such as adding lifts, ramps or freeing up space around entrances and corridors. Such measures aren’t just important for customers with prams, but also wheelchair users.
Offer Food/Drink Options for Kids
If you own a restaurant or a cafe, consider what meal options you provide for kids. It could be worth creating a kids’ menu with smaller portions and more basic foods. On top of this, consider the types of drinks that you offer to kids – this could include drinks like juices, milkshakes or hot chocolates. Grocery stores should also consider children’s foods.
Designate Areas for Families
Catering to customers with kids could help you to attract more of these customers. But what about customers that don’t want to be disturbed by kids? You don’t want to lose these customers in the process. Hotels and restaurants sometimes designate family areas for this reason. This could include having a dining area for families and separate dining area for non-families, or making sure that hotel rooms for families are separated from hotel rooms for non-families. This keeps everyone happy, while also allowing you to target facilities in certain places (you could put diners with kids next to a play area, while keeping diners without kids away from the play area).
