6 Reasons Why Seeing a Dentist Isn’t Scary

The sad truth about dentists is they sometimes get a bad reputation, not because of what they do (or don’t do), but because of some people’s assumptions that dentists cause their patients a lot of pain unnecessarily!

In reality, the fear of having a painful experience at the dentist is widely unfounded. The truth is, dentists will do everything in their power to ensure their patients have a comfortable experience. Still not convinced? Here are six more reasons why seeing a dentist isn’t scary.

#1: All Procedures Are Tolerable

It doesn’t matter whether you’re young, old, having your teeth professionally cleaned, or are having some dental crowns fitted. What you need to know is that all procedures are tolerable.

Dentists have a range of pain relief medication options at their disposal, and the fast-acting effects of those procedures mean most people don’t feel much pain, if at all, during a dental procedure.

#2: Dentists Are Affordable

For some people, the thought of paying a dentist’s fees is enough to put them off visiting a dentist and having a professional attend to their dental issues. The truth is, dental care is available to everyone – irrespective of how much they earn.

Did you know many Medicaid dentists offer affordable dental care to people on a low income? Now there’s no excuse to avoid seeing a dentist due to thoughts of affordability.

#3: Dentists Want You to Have Healthy Teeth

Dentists are healthcare professionals like doctors and nurses. Their job is to provide solutions to your dental problems and give you support and advice on caring for your teeth. In short, they care about your teeth and want your teeth to be as healthy as possible.

They want to see you infrequently and know that you’ve taken steps to look after your teeth rather than see you regularly for fillings, extractions, and other procedures that exist due to poor dental hygiene.

#4: They Can Warn You About Future Problems

When you go for a dental checkup, your examination will provide facts about the actual state of your teeth. That means they can spot signs of potential future problems, such as erosion, periodontal disease, and even oral cancer.

They can then advise you on preventing those symptoms from developing into serious dental concerns. In short, they provide the equivalent of a medical from your doctor – but for your teeth!

#5: They Can Help You Achieve a Better Smile

If you’re unhappy with your smile and don’t feel confident when you’re out in social settings, your dentist can give you some advice and practical options to achieve a better smile. That’s because most dentists offer cosmetic dentistry services.

For instance, you might benefit from teeth whitening if your teeth got stained from years of drinking certain beverages. Or, they can give you options to help realign your teeth if you suffer from teeth misalignment.

#6: They Are Human Beings Like You

Finally, remember that dentists are people like you. That means you can talk to them about any dental concerns, no matter how embarrassing or frustrating they are to you. Your dentist can address those concerns with you, leaving you feeling more positive about your teeth.
